Shaka's Rock

A quieter beach just north of Ballito, with a tidal pool, rocky cliffs and some of the best snorkelling on the coast.

The beach and tidal pool

Shaka's Rock (also spelt Chaka's Rock) is a small seaside suburb about 5 km north of Ballito. Its beach has a tidal pool with clear water and reef fish, and snorkellers rate it among the best tidal pools in the country.

Cliffs, coves and fishing

The shore here is rocky, with cliffs and small coves to explore at low tide. The rocks are a popular fishing spot, and the area is also used for launching ski boats. Dolphins are often seen in the surf.

Good to know

Leave the fish in the pool alone: residents work hard to protect them after poaching in the past.

The coastal walk from Ballito to Salt Rock climbs over the cliffs here. Do that section at low tide.
